Already in the very first phase of implementation the EYVOL partnership is achieving high results in training volunteers and developing best-practices in sport volunteerism. The EYVOL project seeks to train volunteers on how to use sport as a means to promote social inclusion, intercultural dialogue, peace building and socio-economic development in the Euro-Mediterranean area.

Announced from the United Nations Headquarters in November 2018, on the occasion of the 8th Global Forum of the UN Alliance of Civilizations, empowering Youth Volunteers Through Sport (EYVOL)” is a transnational and  multi-sectoral  cooperation initiative  co-funded  by  the  European  Union  within  the  Erasmus+  programme. This project is developing and implementing innovative educational methods to train young volunteers on how to use sport to promote social inclusion, intercultural dialogue, peace building and socio-economic development.

Inspired by Save the Dream, the programme has been leading by the International Olympic Truce Center (IOTC) and implementing jointly with the Comité Olímpico de Portugal (COP), Orama Neon – Youthorama, the International Council for Coaching Excellence (ICCE), Comitato Olimpico Nazionale Italiano (CONI), the European Platform for Sports and Innovation (EPSI), the European Non-Governmental Sports Organization – ENGSO Youth, the Universitat de les Illes Balears,  Fundación del Centenario del Sevilla FC, Université Paris I Panthéon-Sorbonne and garagErasmus Foundation.

EYVOL is officially backed by the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC) and the Association of IOC Recognized International Sports Federations (ARISF) and supported by Roma Cares Foundation and Al Sharq Forum. EYVOL officially started its activities on the 22nd of January 2019, in Athens and was announced for the first time from the United Nations Headquarters in New York in November 2018, on the occasion of the 8th Global Forum of the UN Alliance of Civilizations, attended by UN Secretary-General, H.E. Mr. Antonio Guterres.

As part of the implementation of the project, so far 69 organisations, notably from Italy (17), Portugal (13), Spain (6) and Greece (5), are involved as participants of the EYVOL’s survey whose aim is to identify good practices developed by organizations from different sectors. The data that will be collected will serve to create a robust evidence base about the current outlook on sport volunteering in Europe and beyond (particularly the Enlarged Mediterranean Region), as a tool to empower youth through sport. Its outcomes are expected to be presented in Seville at the end of 2020 during the Final EYVOL Conference.

Furthermore, 10 Sport Volunteers have been selected among many candidates on the base of specific criteria (age, knowledge of foreign languages, interest in sport, mobility experience) and recommended by the organizations partnering in EYVOL to the Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC). These youngsters will have the opportunity to contribute to the management of the 2019 IAAF in Doha from 27 September till 6 October and live a great international experience between sport and professional/volunteering activity.

EYVOL partnership considers this to be such an outstanding achievement and an excellent showcase for the project gathering volunteers with great willingness and enthusiasm to participate to such an event.
