From School to EU students visit Brussels

Students from three European schools discover Europe: the Erasmus Project “From School to EU”

As part of the Erasmus Project “From School to EU”, a delegation of students from the high schools Liceo Da Vinci of Arzignano, Ensemble Scolaire Cabrini of Paris and BHI Etxebarri in the Basque Country, experienced a unique experience thanks to the study trip organized by garagErasmus to Brussels from 9 to 12 November 2023.

The trip to Brussels represents the culmination of a project lasting more than a year where students from the three institutes had the opportunity to discuss and propose initiatives regarding European priorities. After a long series of online meetings in English, the children, divided into interscholastic groups, presented their proposals to a jury made up of representatives of the four partner organisations, who together with the votes on social media, decreed the winning group of the trip to Brussels.

The winning group, made up of around 20 children and their teachers, had the opportunity to meet directly with the Member of the European Parliament Alessandra Moretti on Friday 10 November. During the meeting, the young people had the opportunity to present their innovative proposals on the topic of sustainability, developed with commitment and passion during the project.

The day continued with a visit to the heart of Europe, the European Quarter, and then the delegation had the opportunity to visit the headquarters of garagErasmus  and participate in the workshop l ‘eB! Challenge developed by the Brussels Municipality, to discover the city in an interactive and educational way.

Saturday was dedicated to exploring European issues and sustainability through a workshop on the recycling and reuse of waste at the House of European History and a visit to the same museum.

The visit concluded on Sunday 12 November with an engaging role-play at the European Parliament, which allowed the students to experience a simulation of the process of vote. 

The entire project represented an extraordinary opportunity for young Europeans to explore the European context, meet with important institutional figures and delve deeper into issues related to sustainability and civil rights.
