How do we stimulate critical thinking towards online information, especially children and young people? The Guidelines for teachers and educators on tackling disinformation and promoting digital literacy through education and training developed by the European Commission, together with a group of authoritative experts, provides teaching ideas, activity plans, tips and simple solutions to tackle disinformation while at the same time promote digital literacy. The guide was designed for primary and secondary school teachers but it is useful for everyone. Some questions that the guides include are: how can we encourage young people to fact-check information and think critically? How can learners understand the various dimensions of disinformation, such as ethical or economic? How can we identify deep fakes? The guidelines are a key initiative of the Digital Education Action Plan (2021-2027).
